Different types of boxing
I will mention three different forms of boxing; however, boxing varies and is constantly evolving as our needs for variety grows.
- Sparring: this is the part of boxing that is hand-to-hand punches. The training for sparring is much the same as cross-training, with the exception that when you cross-train for fitness you do not move to the sparring level. Of course, if you are professional boxer this is a moot point.
- Kick: this is a combination of Chinese and Indian martial arts. You can think of it as hybrid boxing. Kick-boxing uses aerobics and martial arts, offering a cross-training experience and total body workout. You will use a combination of exercise routines that strengthen both body and mind. This workout will also help alleviate stress and increase stamina and cardiovascular power.
- Muay: this is a martial art that uses eight points of contact instead of the two or four points of contact used with other boxing techniques. Muay boxing comes from Thailand and is a full contact sport. It focuses on body conditioning; part of this conditioning includes running, shadowboxing and much more.
Fitness at home
A popular way to bring sports into your workout when you are unable to leave your home is the Wii system. This system includes dancing, tennis, in-line skating, and more than 25 exercises. The Wii fitness is a great way to add variety to your exercise routine. You don’t have to leave boxing behind as the Wii fitness system includes this as part of the exercises included.
